Paging and Intercom

Paging broadcasts your voice one-way through phone speakers or an overhead speaker system: dial the paging code, and "Mike, call on line 2" or "Customer pickup at the front counter" plays across the shop floor, warehouse, or office. Intercom is the two-way cousin: dial a coworker's intercom code and their desk phone answers itself on speaker, so you ask "is the Johnson order ready?" and get an answer without them touching the handset. Together they replace shouting down hallways, walking across buildings, and the perpetually misplaced two-way radios.

fvoip lets you organize paging into zones so announcements reach only who should hear them. Page the warehouse without disturbing the front office; page the service bays without startling the waiting room; page all zones for the announcements everyone needs. Zones are just groups of phones you define in the portal, dial 700 for all-page, 701 for warehouse, 702 for front office, whatever numbering you like. Desk phones from Yealink, Poly, and Grandstream page through their built-in speakers, and if your building already has overhead speakers, they can be tied in through a standard SIP-connected paging gateway so one dial reaches ceiling speakers and desk phones alike.

The daily rhythm of a physical business runs on this. An auto shop pages the bays when a customer arrives; a medical office intercoms the back to ask whether the doctor is ready for the next patient, quietly, without the overhead announcement; a warehouse pages pickers for will-call orders. Configuration is a one-time exercise: define the zones, set which users may page which zones, and print the codes somewhere near the phones until muscle memory takes over, which takes about a week. It is included on every plan, and the only hardware question is whether you want overhead speakers or phone speakers alone.
